THURSDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL
Packers vs. Commanders Tonight at Lambeau Field
clear, 60°F Short week for both clubs. Both enter 1–0 . Packers trying to start 2–0 for the first time since 2020; Commanders coming off a rugged 21–6 road win and looking to prove last year’s breakout was real.
Fast tempo, vertical shots, and big play defenses. Expect deep attempts from both QBs and a chess match between LaFleur’s offense and Dan Quinn’s aggressive defense.
Factors
Green Bay is the more banged up team multiple starters listed questionable and two ruled out. Washington is relatively healthier with only a couple question marks.
Key storylines
Jordan Love’s ability to make big throws against an improved pass rush
Jayden Daniels’ mobility vs. Green Bay’s zone schemes
Micah Parsons’ snap count and impact after the blockbuster trade.
The Offense
Packers Matt LaFleur still loves tempo and play-action concepts that get Jordan Love onto intermediate/deep targets . Love attacked the intermediate field all day in Week 1 ending with a 72.7 completion percentage, and 2 TDs vs Lions.
Green Bay can beat you with a balanced mix, Josh Jacobs between the tackles and then quick-strike shots to Jayden Reed or Tucker Kraft. But the Packers’ offensive line is dealing with bumps Aaron Banks and Zach Tom were limited in practice and are game-time decisions after being injured last week, Jordan Morgan / Darian Kinnard are likely the plan B options if those two don’t go.
Commanders (what they run / personnel flavor)
Washington
behind the trust in Jayden Daniels, a real dual hreat with top tier rushing numbers last year, 891 rush yards, and passing for 3,568 yards, 25 TDs in 2024. Kliff
Kingsbury concepts and Deebo Samuel’s versatility create run/pass harmony that washington needs, along with the additon of Laremy Tunsil LT to anchor a remodeled line with rookie Josh Conerly Jr. Who has earned a starting role at RT that gave Washington a much cleaner pass pro look in Week 1. Washington’s run game and QB pressure packages will be designed to hopefully force Green Bay into long down and distance situations, as they look to pull off their first win in Green Bay since 1988.
X-factors
Jordan Love vs. Jayden Daniels
Jordan Love
Entered 2025 with solid career metrics 63% completion historically,
Week 1 16-22, 188 yards, 2 TDs and a 128.6 passer rating vs Detroit. He pushes intermediate and uses play action to create big targets.
Jayden Daniels
Rookie phenom in 2024 with 3,568 pass yards and 891 rush yards
Week 1 19-30, 233 yards, 1 TD, 68 rush yards.
He’s dangerous as a runner and forces defenses to honor read option concepts and QB runs. If you play too much man up, Daniels will hurt you on designed runs and RPOs.
Packers O-line availability vs. Commanders front
Green Bay lists Aaron Banks (LG) and Zach Tom (RT) questionable; if they sit the Packers will shuffle in Morgan/Kinnard and that creates exploitable matchups for a veteran pass rush that now includes Von Miller situationally for Washington. Washington’s defensive additions and rotation, Dorance Armstrong, Javon Kinlaw, Von Miller, can create mismatches vs backups.
Micah Parsons’ integration
Parsons made a splash in Week 1 despite limited snaps, he’ll be a focus for Dan Quinn to scheme around. If Parsons is limited or out, Packers defensive identity loses a major edge. If he’s active and productive, he can tilt pocket collapse and create early panic for Washington’s tackles.
Big plays / deep ball efficiency
Both teams had shots from game one
Green Bay’s Love attacked the intermediate/deep window
Washington opened up with chunk plays to Deebo and long runs by Jacory Croskey Merritt. Whichever offense holds up on early third down conversions and executes the deep ball will swing expected point advantage.
Turnover battle & short-yardage defense
Washington’s 21–6 Week 1 win featured a defense that bent but denied the endzone, stopped Giants inside five twice. Green Bay must avoid gifting field position on a short week, turnovers could be fatal in Lambeau primetime.
What to expect schematically
LaFleurs' Packers will lean on a play action, quick-tempo approach to neutralize Washington’s pass rush and to get Love out on the intermediate to deep concepts your typical sail, verticals, pivot routes. Expect occasional gadget/WR motion wrinkles, LaFleur used a wildcat look and play action shots vs Detroit last week.
Dan Quinns' Commanders are aggressive last season he leaned on fourth down calls and pressure packages, he’ll dial pressure and exotic looks to keep Love uncomfortable and will try to create short yardage negative plays with Von Miller and Dorance Armstrong.
Quinn’s history
very willing to go for it and gamble in key spots that aggression is a direct matchup versus a Packers line potentially missing starters.
Tempo
Quick, with explosive plays. If the Packers’ backups up front struggle, Daniels will test the depth on designed QB run/bootlegs and inside zone reads, if Green Bay sustains protection, expect Love to mix deep shots and quick outs to keep chains moving.
Key players
F or Green Bay
Jordan Love QB: Must be decisive, avoid turnovers and hit seam/intermediate throws that set up the run.
Josh Jacobs RB: Week 1 TD extended his scoring streak into the season opener If the OL slides, Jacobs must find cutback lanes and convert short downs.
Micah Parsons EDGE : even on limited snaps he pressures pocket and forces quick decisions. His presence matters even when he’s on a snap count.
For Washington
Jayden Daniels (QB) if Green Bay shows too much man coverage he’ll eat them with designed runs and RPOs , avoid letting him get into a rhythm
Deebo Samuel WR/RB: used in run game, as a receiver, and in motion to create angles. Limit his free yards after the catch.
Von Miller / Dorance Armstrong (EDGE): Combo of veteran craft and athleticism to attack backup tackles if Zach Tom/Aaron Banks are inactive. Their situational pressure could be the game changerz.
Jacory “Bill” Croskey-Merritt
Rookie RB who broke out in Week 1 with 82 yards and a TD on just 10 carries.
Brings burst and big play ability Washington has been missing.
Named NFL Rookie of the Week after his debut.
Could be the X f actor tonight if he keeps that momentum going behind the new O-line.
What each team MUST do to win
Packers
- Get at least one of Aaron Banks or Zach Tom active, if not, scheme quick passes to neutralize edge pressure
- Protect Jordan Love reduced negative plays by 50% vs Detroit Week 1.
- Control the clock with Jacobs to keep Daniels off the field.
- Force Washington into obvious passing downs, make Daniels throw into zone, and pressure secondary into mistakes.
- Limit big plays to Deebo and McLaurin rotate coverage and bracket as needed.
Washington
- Attack Packers’ backup OL matchups early with Von Miller/Dorance Armstrong pressure packages.
- Use Jayden Daniels’ legs as a mismatch keep Love off the field with sustained drives and QB draws.
- Convert third downs long drives will wear an aging Packers roster down on a short week.
- Win the turnover battle strip ball and capitalize on short field position.
- Stay physical in the red zone stop Green Bay from getting easy red zone possessions.
Matchups to exploit
Commanders pass rush → Packers backup tackles/guards.
If Tom or Banks are inactive, Washington should bring stunts and corner blitzes to overwhelm a makeshift interior/edge set.
Von Miller and Armstrong should see heavy situational use on early downs to set the tone.
Packers play action → Commanders zone.
If Washington plays lighter man, LaFleur will run a lot of play action and crossers to find mismatches
Love’s Week 1 ADOT and intermediate efficiency say he’ll target that area.
Run/short yardage → Exploit fatigue on short week.
Both teams have athletic LBs, whoever wins the trench battle on third & short likely controls time of possession.
Packers Injuries
Nate Hobbs (CB) – OUT
Aaron Banks (OL) – OUT
Zack Tom (RT) – OUT
Dontayvion Wicks (WR) – OUT
Williams (RB) – OUT
Matthew Golden (WR) – Questionable
Commanders Injuries
Marshon Lattimore (CB) – Hamstring, expected to play but not 100%
Trey Amos (CB) – Active, but still rookie growing pains
Von Miller (EDGE) – Limited role in pass rush packages
Betting corner
Market chatter has Washington favored by some outlets
The short week health question for Green Bay is the driver
if Packers are missing both starting OL men, Washington’s pass rush swings value.

HookedMedia's Thoughts
This is the kind of primetime matchup that tells you more about a team than a Week 1
are the Packers built to finish the big games Or are the Commanders the legit NFC contender who can win in hostile conditions and protect an elite QB?
If Green Bay keeps its OL mostly intact and Parsons plays even limited snaps, this can be a tight, explosive affair that comes down to turnovers and who wins the trench battles. If Banks/Tom sit and Washington rides the limited Von Miller or Dorance Armstrong into the backfield, expect the Commanders to control the line of scrimmage and the clock.
Gut Read
expect a quick-tempo, big play game decided by edge pressure and third down conversions.
Whoever executes the deep ball better and wins the turnover fight will walk out of Lambeau with a 2–0 head start.
